Frequently Asked Questions...

The Retro Bullet Planter

Q: How will plants drain?
A: This material is watertight, so without a hole drilled in the bottom, the planters will not drain. We will drill a hole for you upon request. Just note your request in the comments section of the order form. We personally prefer to place an already potted plant within the planter so plants can more easily be moved around or switched out. To create a more finished "ground," use florist's moss to camouflage the inner pot, or fill the void around it with waterproof material (such as the accursed packing peanuts) and place river rocks on top. With cacti and some succulents, which can be watered sparingly, you can pot directly in the planter, making sure to use gravel or sand about halfway to the top, followed by cactus soil.

Q: Can I use my planter outdoors?
A: Yes, but we recommend it for covered outdoor use. Fiberglass is extremely durable and water-resistant (boats are made out of it), but after years of exposure, some of the resin will erode and the color may fade. Chrome stands will rust outdoors and powder coat will eventually deteriorate if directly exposed to the elements.

Q: What if my planter is scuffed and doesn't come clean with soap and water?
A: If your planter becomes scuffed or scratched, try a degreasing cleaner like Simple Green. It won't harm the finish and works well for removing marks from fiberglass.

Q: Do these look like the vintage bullet planters?
A: We think so, and we're pretty serious vintage collectors ourselves! The most significant difference is that our planters are in new condition and have not faded or deteriorated with years of use.

Vintage-Style Screen Door

Q: Can I use this in my existing screen door?
A: If you have a single-panel screen door (no cross brace), and the inner width is no narrower than 27" or wider than 30", our insert should work. If in doubt, please write us with the exact dimensions of your door and we will help determine what will work for you.

Q: Is there a door commercially available that I can buy to use with the screen door insert?
A: Yes. We have resumed selling this door on the website. Inserts shipped with the wooden door will be shipped by freight. Or--if you prefer to source locally, contact your local lumber yard and ask if they stock or can order a 1 1/8" thick Single Panel Screen Door for a 3'0 opening. At least one company--Annona, in Annona, TX currenly manufactures this door and will ship to lumber resellers.

Lead Time

Q: Why is there a wait for my item?

A: Demand for our products periodically exceeds supply. Hip Haven is a small company with a limited share of production time on the factory line. Though we attempt to predict which colors/options will be in highest demand and pre-order accordingly, there are times when we have to await the next production run to re-stock. This contingency is covered by the 4 week delivery window mentioned on the order page. We greatly appreciate your patience.

Hip Haven Return Policy

Q: If I change my mind can I return my item?

A: Full refunds are given only if your item arrives damaged. Please document the problem within 24 hours, preferably with a digital photo of both product and packaging. This will be used to file a claim with the shipper.

If you change your mind about the purchase, you can exchange for store credit, with all shipping at your expense . Shipping on our most popular product, the bullet planter, is priced by volume, and to most states runs over $20 to ship each way, so please make your selection carefully.
