For the latest installment in our Client Spotlight blog series, we spoke with Jaime White, PR Director of Magnetic-ERV, a hospitality management and real estate development firm. Her firm owns The Lodges on Vashon, located in the heart of Washington state’s lush Vashon Island. Back in 2014 and 2015, Hip Haven worked with their design team on lodge interiors -- providing sleek, midcentury lighting options that culminated in the modern meets Mother Nature feel that makes this island getaway perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation. What would you say are the overarching design styles you’ve chosen to incorporate into the Lodges on Vashon?

Influenced by Scandinavian design, The Lodges are minimal and functional. We wanted to create a space that was fresh and modern, but also complimented the rural, eclectic island of Vashon.

What stands out about the design of the Lodges? Any specific design inspirations?

Each of the 16 lodges are styled a little differently with midcentury modern furnishings and objets d'art sourced from island estate sales and vintage shops. Because Vashon is a tight knit community we worked with island craftsman to build many of the furniture pieces found in the Lodges. For the added modern touch, like our lighting, we sourced items from the best modern furniture retailers we could find.

What was it that drew you to incorporate Hip Haven’s retro-modern decor and lighting into your space?

We were looking specifically for bullet lights that could be used as sconces and drop lighting and Hip Haven was the only retailer that had this option. They had a great selection of modernized midcentury furnishings, which perfectly fit the Lodges aesthetic.
